Description:

Depomycin is a suspension for injection, containing pprocaine- ppenicillin and ddihydrostreptomycin. Penicillin is an antibiotic of the § -lactam class; dihydrostreptomycin belongs to the aminoglycosides. The combination is active against both gGram-positive and gGram-negative bacteria such as Staphylococcus spp, Streptococcus spp, Pasteurella spp, Haemophilus spp and Leptospira spp.

Composition:

Suspension containing in a concentration of 200 mg procaine benzylpenicillin and 200 mg (equals dihydrostreptomycin sulfate 268,4 mg) ddihydro-streptomycin ( as sulphate) per ml.

Formulation:

Ready-to-use aqueous suspension for injection.

Indications:

Treatment and prevention of infections caused by bacteria sensitive to penicillin or dihydrostreptomycin, such as respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, infections at surgery, navel-ill and leptospirosis.

Dosage:

Target Species Dosage
Cattle and horses 1 ml/25 kg bw
Pigs and sheep 1 ml/20 kg bw
Dogs and cats 1 ml/10 kg bw


Dosage interval 24 hours. 
Duration of treatment 3-5 days.

Method of administration:

By intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.

Withholding period:

For meat: 14 days 
For milk: 4 milkings (48 hours)
(National regulations should be observed).

Storage:

Store below 15°C. Do not freeze.

Contra-indications:

- Not to be used in animals known to be allergic to penicillin or (dihydro-) streptomycin.
- Not to be used if ß-lactamase producing organisms are known to be present. 
- The administration of products containing procaine penicillin may occasionally cause transient pyrexia, vomiting, shivering, listlessness and incoordination in pigs. Rare cases of abortion have been reported in pregnant sows and gilts.

Precautions:

Operators Individuals that are allergic to penicillin or (dihydro-) streptomycin should avoid skin contact with the product. When treatment is repeated the same injection site should not be used twice.
